The company announced that it has developed energy storage systems in collaboration with Tesla for solar power systems.
SolarCity, which operates in the US solar power system rental sector, announced that the energy storage system developed in collaboration with electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla will provide a solution against increasing electricity prices and power outages.
According to the statement, individuals and organizations with solar power systems can store the solar energy they generate using an intelligent energy management system called DemandLogic, and use it during high-demand periods to reduce their electricity costs. The system also protects owners from power outages caused by the grid.
SolarCity will offer the system for free to all its customers with a 10-year service agreement, while the company announced that it will customize the system for large-scale installations of companies at low cost, allowing them to save immediately.
JB Straubel, Tesla’s Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder, who evaluated the announcement, pointed out that between 2003 and 2012, 679 power outages occurred in the US due to weather events, including 7 of the top 10 most damaging storms in US history, and also drew attention to the increase in electricity prices. Straubel also said they expect the energy storage market to grow very rapidly and that the threshold for this has been exceeded.
